Hanoman (right), the ape hero from the Ramayana, is introducing his son, accompanied by his wife and child, to Rama and Lakshmana. Notice the gestures of the characters. Rama is protective, with his hand on the shoulder, while Hanoman’s son shows respect. The style of the painting is narrative, with iconography derived from wayang performances. Rama is recognized by the headdress on his head.
